The buildings here are from the 1920s — high ceilings, ironwork, plaster mouldings, and flats that still carry their original parquet. Qasr El Nil and Talaat Harb are a short walk in any direction; the metro is closer than the kerb. Look up on your way out.
02Afternoon
The Egyptian Museum is minutes on foot — go before the coaches. So is Talaat Harb Square, and the best koshari in the city sits on a corner you'd walk past without noticing. Ask us; we keep the list.
03Evening
This is the loudest, most alive part of Cairo after dark — traffic, conversation, a wedding, the call to prayer rolling across the rooftops. Close the double-glazed windows and it all goes soft.
